- Even while isolated from the rest of his imprisoned comrades, Fidel writes a public letter to Radio Cadena Oriental radio station host, Luis Conte Agüero, excusing himself from the invitation he received earlier that month to join a civic movement. Fidel wrote: "First of all, I must organize the men of the July 26 Movement and unite in indestructible force all the combatants, those in exile, in prison and on the street, which account to more than eighty young people wrapped around the same call to make history and sacrifice. "
