Cuba begins a new era

The Agrarian Law that will be adopted today by the Council of Ministers in the historical camp of the General Headquarters of the Rebel Army in the Sierra Maestra Mountains is the realization of a promise made to the people and to the homeland.

Cuba begins a new era which will be extraordinarily splendorous if, beyond all sorts of avarice, we dedicate ourselves to work together for the bright future that lies ahead.  No one should flutter their selfish interests.  Let us do what others did not.  Let us rebuild what others destroyed.  Let us make use of that which others wasted.  Let us accept the sacrifices imposed unto us by the present hour and forge the basis for a lasting social peace without hunger or oppression, because peace and happiness are only possible in freedom and justice.

Above and beyond any interest or selfish attitude, let us raise, higher than ever, our generous flag whose impeccable star must bear in writing, and on behalf of all the martyrs of the homeland, now and forever, our Apostle’s formula for justice: “With all and for the well-being of all.”
